We're not just another music studio.
We're a family.
Music is a language that transcends culture, gender, class, and color. It unites, empowers, dignifies, uplifts, and stirs us to live better lives.
At Mountain Music School, our goal is not just to give music lessons but to inspire our students and our community through this rich and diverse language.
Our mission is to sharpen minds through music. Time and time again, music has been proven to improve the lives of those who engage with it. Be it fine motor skills, personal discipline, improved concentration, or even working well with others, music is so much more than just a hobby. It is an expression of a life well lived.
Our philosophy is that the best music comes from people that are passionate about learning and playing music. Every single one of our teachers is a world-class performer who loves teaching students and helping them reach their highest potential. More than that, we seek to be role models to our students, hoping to inspire a love for music and the community we live in. We want our students to become as passionate about music as we are because we know how music can improve the world.
At Mountain Music School, our approach is two-fold:
Make Music Available to Everyone
It doesn’t matter your age or ability — if you want to become a better musician, we want to help. We’re conveniently located in Scotts Valley, so you won’t have to search all over town for a private studio. And we keep our rates affordable, making this an investment that’s both financially savvy and personally fulfilling for you and your family.
Build a Culture of Music
Though we are located very close to larger cities, we believe that there is a music scene waiting to break out right here in our own community. All of our teachers are engaged with performance opportunities where students and their families can be involved. We also offer plenty of performance opportunities for our students, giving students ample opportunity to grow as musicians and performers.
Director and Owner
Sydney Gorham first discovered her love of teaching at 15 years old. Guided by a clear, unwavering vision for the school and its relationship with the surrounding community, Sydney strives to nourish Mountain Music’s continuing growth with compassionate, dedicated leadership. In addition to running the school, she maintains a busy teaching schedule which keeps her well connected to the needs of the staff, students and their families.
Raised in a musical household, her childhood was filled with joyful experiences that sparked her dream of a local music school. After receiving her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of the Pacific, Sydney and her amazing team of supportive friends, family, and colleagues made that dream a reality!
